NHS charity Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) has launched an innovative online fundraiser!

ACT is the latest in a line of UK charities launching online charity auctions – the last seven days have seen similar ventures from Help the Aged, Make-A-Wish and SignHealth.

The man behind the initiative is Steve Bailey of online charity fundraisers Charity2Charity: “Online fundraising is aimed at counteracting the widespread drop in response to traditional fundraising methods such as direct mail.”

A third of charity mailings are thrown away according to latest findings from Nielsen Media Research, yet many charities are still reliant on the sector’s falling revenues. But many charities, says a Marketing report, have been slow to harness new technology for marketing.

“Now some of the more forward-looking charities are innovating”, says Steve Bailey, “linking up with Corporate Sociality Responsibility (CSR) programmes in order to take advantage of the more cost-effective medium of digital fundraising.

“Charities tell us that while they acknowledge the power of online fundraising, the costs, the technology and the security issues are very real barriers to doing this in-house. We are really pleased to be working with the third sector and helping them make this a reality.”

Comments Jo Elliott, PR & Marketing Manager at ACT: “This new online innovation is all about increasing our fundraising revenue. Our partnership with Charity2Charity offers a valuable online platform for us to collect donations and promote sale items to anyone wishing to support our cause.

“ACT supports and promotes Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. Its latest project is a portable CT scanner for the Neurosciences department. The scanner will allow scans to be performed by the bedside, saving time and reducing the hazards of taking very sick patients to a static facility. It is urgently required.”
