Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Limited is using Aperture Vista 500 in its data centres to visualise its resources for everyday management, helping prepare for space consolidation and gaining maximum energy efficiency.

30 April 2008 – Aperture Technologies Inc., the leading global provider of software for managing the physical infrastructure of data centres, has been chosen by Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Limited, to provide its data centre management solution, Aperture VISTA 500. The industry leading software will be used by Sainsbury’s to improve visibility into the physical elements of its data centres nationwide.

Aperture VISTA enables organisations to visually manage the complicated physical environment of the data centre. The software is designed to help organisations with their capacity planning and utilisation. Organisations can view all infrastructure variables, including space, power, cooling, network and storage, to keep the data centre operating at peak efficiency.

Sainsbury’s is deploying Aperture VISTA for its central data centres and computer rooms in depots..
Sainsbury’s intends to eventually consolidate its data centres, and to successfully do this, it needs to have a comprehensive overview of its existing hardware to plan the activity and manage transition work in a well controlled way. Aperture VISTA is a purpose-made tool for supporting this.

The company also wants to improve the accessibility of data. Previously, users had to make enquiries through central administrators to gain the information they needed. VISTA allows web based access for an unlimited number of users, depending on access rights, providing an effective solution to this problem.

Malcolm Ireland, IT Production Operations Manager at Sainsbury’s Supermarkets said “We expect Vista 500 to help us by providing better access to configuration records when we are planning changes in our data centres. We want to maintain a pictorial plan for new installs, changes and removals, with easy access to this information for all who need it. It will also help us to identify the best place to position equipment to make best use of our space, cabling infrastructure and cooling. We’re implementing now with the help of Aperture’s consultants.”
