Planview OpenSuite for CMDBf delivers on commitment to support open standards for industry-wide interoperability of heterogeneous IT environments

READING, Berks — May 7, 2008 — Planview, the leading independent provider of enterprise-wide portfolio management solutions, today introduced Planview OpenSuite for CMDBf (Configuration Management Database federation), the emerging open interoperability standard that will enable organizations to federate CMDBs from various vendors. By integrating Planview Enterprise, the system of record for work and resources, with the federated CMDB, the system of record for infrastructure, organizations can better optimize their services portfolio to reduce costs and drive better alignment to business objectives.

The reality of today’s complex, multi-vendor IT environments with multiple CMDBs creates a challenge to comprehensive IT management. The Planview OpenSuite for CMDBf will make it possible for organizations to engage the full spectrum of CMDBf-compliant CMDBs for their ITIL-driven initiatives toward Service Portfolio Management. Planview Enterprise Service Portfolio Management (SPM) enables the assessment of the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of services, allowing IT managers to make decisions on what services to outsource, retire, enhance and invest in. The integration facilitates the automatic and accurate population of the service topology within Planview Enterprise SPM to build the baseline to determine the TCO of each service.

“CMDBs are a strategic solution within today’s heterogeneous IT infrastructures. The emerging CMDBf standard will enable organizations to gain the greatest benefit possible through multi-vendor federation,” said Patrick Tickle, executive vice president of Products at Planview. “By supporting this open standard, Planview furthers its commitment to providing industry-wide interoperability and supporting the ITIL trend toward service portfolio management.”

An important step in promoting industry-wide interoperability of IT management data, the CMDBf standard was created by technology leaders including BMC Software, CA, Fujitsu, HP, IBM and Microsoft. Planview is the first portfolio management vendor to offer products based on this emerging standard.

Planview offers the broadest set of portfolio management applications and services, from services, to planning, to execution in project portfolio management. Planview OpenSuite for CMDBf will be available in Q2 2008 with the latest version of Planview Enterprise 9.2. For more information, please visit
