Two new variants – Chocolate & Orange and Chocolate Rum & Raisin - added to award-winning premium & indulgent pudding range
Pudding Lane’s new Chocolate & Orange Log and Chocolate Rum & Raisin Pudding Log caused a stir at the recent Food & Drink Expo 2008 and will feature prominently at the upcoming Speciality & Fine Food Fair*, as UK consumers increasingly search for real indulgence in a health-obsessed market.
Handmade by Pudding Lane (www.puddinglane.uk.com) in Australia, and exclusively distributed in the UK by leading gourmet food distributor and retailer Porter Foods (www.porterfoods.co.uk), the entire range is designed to appeal to retailers and restaurateurs seeking traditional authenticity, highest quality ingredients, fantastic flavour and visual appeal, and the ultimate in indulgence for their consumers.
Produced in New South Wales, the handmade desserts were first created following customer requests for new flavours of decadent dark chocolate puddings in a convenient and easy to portion shape: the log. Pudding Lane’s sumptuous new variants join a stable of handmade puddings including the traditional Christmas puds, which were first introduced to the UK market last year. All of the puddings are “boiled-in-the-cloth”, including the new logs, which make them much more complicated to produce but provide a unique flavour and stand-out visual appeal in stores. The range is also available in New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Australia.
Michael Patton, chairman of Porter Foods, said: “The Expo was a great place to launch the two new pudding logs and we received a lot of interest and sales leads for the Pudding Lane range. The simple and stylish chic white calico cloth packaging really attracts attention. The taste test further convinces buyers of the potential of a truly indulgent, authentic, and real pudding without any hidden or artificial ingredients. It’s good, honest, old-fashioned Aussie indulgence.”
The two new puddings are made with dark chocolate to tap into the burgeoning healthy indulgent trend that is sweeping across the UK and Australia. “Dark chocolate is the ultimate true chocolate and good dark chocolate is the only ingredient to use in the finest recipes,” said Michael Pudding, managing director of Pudding Lane in Australia. “The dark chocolate is Australian. The blend of dark chocolate and French orange liqueur and dark chocolate and dark Queensland Rum provide the ultimate indulgence and tastes.”
Michael added: “The new puddings, alongside the rest of the delicious range, attracted plenty of attention at the Food & Drink Expo from retailers, restaurateurs and consumers intrigued by their exotic look and deliciously authentic taste compared to the standard, mass-market offerings on show. Pudding Lane desserts are perfect for people who prefer the finer things in life.”
All of Pudding Lane’s desserts are known as ‘naughty but nice’ among their loyal customer base – they may not be low-calorie but they’re high in taste and indulgence. In a world obsessed with calorie-counting, Pudding Lane believes that everyone deserves a treat now and again, “where less is more”, and the traditional handmade pudding logs make a fantastic addition during afternoon tea and for dinner parties. Feedback from customers at the Expo points to the ‘back to basics’ trend: a return to the traditional, authentic and handmade qualities with real ingredient provenance associated with food your great grandmother used to make. Pudding Lane is proud to lovingly create food that targets the individual, puddings that don’t all look the same but taste and look incredible.
