Novadigm Introduces Enterprise Desktop Manager* 4.0

....Fourth-Generation Milestone For Industry-Leading
Distributed Software Management Platform...

Novadigm UK announced today the early availability of
Version 4.0 of its innovative Enterprise Desktop Manager*
(EDM), adding a wide range of new features developed with
the assistance of some of the World's largest companies to
solve their existing problems.

Version 4.0 addresses two vital issues facing information
technology (IT) managers: the need to reduce the rising
cost of administration for managing software that runs on
corporate PCs, and the requirement to rapidly deploy and
change business software across the enterprise

EDM 4.0 is the fourth major release of the company's
flagship product. It is a flexible and easily customised
enterprise-wide automation platform for the deployment and
ongoing management of in-house developed and shrink-wrapped
applications in client-server environments.

With EDM 4.0, IT managers now have access to new facilities
that: streamline the process of preparing the target
application for EDM's automated management distribute
management across multiple servers and integrate "plug and
play" adapters for key systems and network management
solutions, which automate interactions between these third
party products and EDM

Collectively, these new capabilities yield 80 per cent gains
in performance and productivity over traditional electronic
software distribution (ESD) tools.

"Release 4.0 makes EDM much stronger, more flexible and
easier to use by adding innovative new capabilities that
we've developed with Kaiser Permanente, BankBoston and other
large businesses in solving their software distribution
problems," said Albion J. Fitzgerald, chairman and CEO of

"Using EDM, our customers were already reporting significant
breakthroughs in the level of automation and control they
experienced in managing PC software configurations, along
with significant increases in productivity through reduced
use of their administration facilities. The enhancements in
EDM 4.0 will help them gain even greater productivity and
cost savings," he concluded.

"Unlike our competitors, EDM is already a mature,
enterprise-hardened suite of software distribution products
now entering its fourth generation," said Will Edward,
Novadigm UK's general manager. "We believe Version 4.0 will
solidify Novadigm's technology leadership position, not one
competitor comes close to matching EDM in terms of power and

New Features in EDM 4.0 Version 4.0 provides significant
enhancements in all aspects of the administrative interface
into its patented "desired-state" management platform,
including: Simplified Packaging and Administration - An
entirely re-designed and re-written graphical interface uses
a wizard-driven display to streamline the process of
repackaging applications into EDM so they can be managed and
automatically repaired at a granular level on an ongoing
basis Enhanced "Push" Distribution - A new one-step
"Notify" process that enables administrators to push out new
versions by simply "dragging and dropping" an application
package onto the Notify facility

Increased Support for Mobile Computing - Platform
enhancements refine the customer's delivery flexibility,
taking advantage of Novadigm's patented "fractional
differencing" to control both the time and amount of data
passed across the network to laptops. Plug and Play Systems
and Network Management Adapters - Continuing Novadigm's
Enablement Initiative, a series of new Adapters will
integrate EDM's "continuous configuration" process with
products from third party vendors (such as Vantive for help
desks, IBM/Tivoli and Computer Associates for frameworks,
Hewlett Packard for network management and Wyatt River for
license management), via SNMP, SMTP, and ODBC interfaces.
Zero Administration Facilities for Desktop Management -
ZAW- (Microsoft's Zero Administration for Windows) and
ZAK-like (Zero Administration Kit) extensions to the
platform control desktop configurations without resorting to
"locked down" PCs, which restrict users' ability to apply
the full power of their PCs to their work, or requiring
manual policy administration. Also included are: a new
"dashboard" for monitoring distribution results, a new
visual screen painter for creating custom screens, new
reporting facilities for asset and license management, an
SQL/ODBC extraction facility, and new performance
tuning/platform extensions for the EDM Manager that
distribute its management functions.

Editor's note Novadigm's Enterprise Desktop Manager brings
dramatic results through a unique approach to software
management that exploits the company's patented "continuous
configuration" and "fractional differencing" technologies.
Continuous configuration is a new approach to software
management in which the status of each user's system
(including its current software configuration and content)
is periodically assessed and compared to a model of its
"desired state" (the software and content that the system
should have). If there is a difference between the two,
Novadigm's products will automatically determine the precise
changes that are required and send only those changes to the
user's desktop.

Novadigm is a leading provider of distributed software
management solutions that reduce the cost and complexity of
managing client/server and Internet software. The company's
products use a patented ‘desired-state' automation platform
to distribute software across thousands of desktops and
servers without manual intervention. The company's products
are now being used by large organisations in the financial
services, transportation, telecommunications, healthcare,
government, and utilities industries across North America,
Europe, Japan, South Africa and South America. The company's
common stock trades on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange under the
symbol "NVDM". More information on Novadigm, Inc. can be
