Sanchita Saha, CEO and founder of social networking site and events club, has been nominated as a finalist in the 2008 Prowess Business Awards, celebrating the very best in women’s enterprise.
Prowess, a UK-wide trade association of over 200 organizations and individuals, promotes the growth of women's business ownership, each year supporting over 100,000 women to start 10,000 new businesses which contribute an additional Β£1bn to the economy.

Now in it’s fourth year, these unique awards honour individuals from right across the business community who are changing the face of UK enterprise by championing female entrepreneurship, including the business women whose passion inspires others, the β€˜unsung heroes’ of business support and the SME researchers who lead the way with progressive ideas.

Sanchita Saha, 32, set up and launched in January 2007, after having spent 18 months researching, testing and developing her idea to create a trusted online and offline social community for young professionals living, working and arriving new to the Capital. Combining users’ online and offline experiences, provides an easy and successful way for its members to expand their real world local social networks, and enjoy their local social scene, activities and interests with new like minded people.

After 6 months, the success of the CitySocialising formula in London, saw the service being rolled out to other major UK cities including Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, Brighton, Bristol, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Within 12 months, Sanchita increased turnover by 650%, with quarterly revenues from launch in January 2007 growing by an average of 42%. Her current business objectives are to secure investment to further develop the model and website, in order to expand the community, network and service further nationally and internationally.

She said: β€œI’m really pleased to be nominated as a finalist in these prestigious Awards. It’s a real honour to have my passion and achievements recognized by an organization like Prowess. Although the business has done incredibly well in its first 16 months, there’s still a long-way to go however as we’re looking for a suitable investor to help us grow and expand the business and the service faster and further.”

Lynne Franks, entrepreneur and founder of the SEED Women’s Enterprise Network, is one of the award judges; she says β€œEncouraging women to reach their full potential in business and life is an on-going passion of mine.
The empowerment that is achieved by becoming an entrepreneur is life changing and these awards celebrate all those who are inspiring and supporting women achieve that goal.”
