When two entrepreneurs launched YouReportTV in April 2008, their aim was to improve opportunities for people from all walks of life to express themselves through journalism. Now the unstoppable duo are actively inspiring young people to develop their journalistic creativity through a series of workshops and strategic partnerships with leading youth based organisations.
YouReportTV marked the beginning of a stream of awareness raising initiatives by providing a youth workshop on the 2nd May for Youth Culture TV (YCTV), where teenagers were shown how they could use the Internet as a new media distribution channel for their film making.
Due to the success of the workshop, YouReportTV is now in talks with West London based Youth Culture TV, a provider of training in all aspects of television, with the view to becoming their content distribution partners and to run a competition to help young people get as much real world impact from their film making as possible.
YouReportTV is also working closely with Elevation Networks to help media and journalism students to create a show reel/portfolio of their work online via the You Report TV website. Elevation Networks was created by a group of undergraduates to help corporate organisations reach minority students and recruit them into the workplace.
“We launched YouReportTV with a very clear objective in mind, to provide an outlet for the entire community to express themselves and report on news which was relevant to them through utilising the unlimited reach of the Internet” explains Julian Hall, co-founder of YouReportTV, which was shortlisted to the final eight for the UK’s Most Innovative Internet Company at The First Tuesday Awards 2008.
“This is especially relevant for the next generation of journalists who will ultimately shape the future of the news and it is our intention for YouReportTV to become the number one platform for aspiring young journalists” adds Lawrence Lartey, co-founder of YouReportTV and also director of Internet marketing company PureOnlineGenius, which he runs with Hall.
YouReportTV will be speaking on ‘The Internet as a Marketing Channel’ on 31st May at the ‘Parents in Business Mini Conference’ and at the ‘Committed to Growth’ small business networking evening in East London on 19th June on the subject of ‘User Generated Content, The New Conversion’.

YouReportTV (www.youreporttv.com) is a platform for consumers to upload, broadcast and debate news, which they have generated commonly referred to as ‘citizen news’ and ‘citizen journalism’.
Social news sites are increasingly popular in the Internet; however, a site which empowers the general public to easily publish timely news has up until now not been available. YouReportTV evangelises the concepts of ‘You News in Good News’ and ‘If its News to you, Its News for Us’.
Visitors will be able to broadcast their news item via;
1. Sending mobile text and video directly to the site and have it immediately published
2. Uploading from a digital camera/camcorders/mobile devise
3. Recording a video on their computer webcam
4. Submitting text copy and photos
5. Users can create a profile, which may serve as an online portfolio.
Users can distribute their news stories through other social news sites and social networking groups.
YouReportTV incentivises users to contribute to stories by sharing their advertising revenue, however, the content will be owned by YouReportTV. The site is accessible to the hard of hearing and visually impaired by providing signage and text readers across the site.
YouReportTV is the brainchild of two entrepreneurs who with over twenty years combined experience in the business technology sector, identified the potential for new technology to facilitate widespread ‘citizen storytelling’.
