The key component is a smart tag which provides employee identification details when passed over the sensor pad of the clocking-in terminal. Small enough to be carried on a key ring, the tag uses RFID (radio frequency identification), a technology pioneered by supermarkets and the retail industry for inventory tracking and management.
For time and attendance recording, customers can now choose between mobile and fixed network solutions with options for reading either smart cards or ID tags. Since they are all based on common data processing software, both network terminal units have dual interface readers for use in conjunction with the mobile clocking devices.
For users this development widens the scope of application. As a standalone unit the mobile terminal provides an ideal entry level solution for companies with up to 25 employees. In larger organisations, the mobile terminal can be used in conjunction with a network configuration to record production hours on specialist plant and machinery. They can also be deployed with field engineers, project teams and other mobile service groups such as cleaning personnel.
Data from the mobile units are downloaded onto a transport card, which can then be transferred either directly to the management computer or via any network input terminal. PC Workstations can be incorporated also into the network and employees can clock-in at any of the terminals.
The input data is interpreted according to database settings and analysed on a day-to-day basis to calculate workings hours, breaks, allowances, carry over and overtime. The reporting facility can be used for planning and monitoring annual vacations, free days, compassionate and sick leave. Reporting also includes facilities to export data into an Excel format compatible with most payroll packages.
