An interiors retailer on Upper Street, Chest of Drawers is highly focused on promoting awareness of the production and workshop methods involved in the manufacture of its furniture. GreenFurnitureSelling mainly solid wood products, more than 30% of its ranges are now made of reclaimed timber. All pieces made from new timber follow a strict sustainable procurement policy. Last year it launched an industry-first labelling system designed to provide transparency to customers and raise awareness of the environmental and ethical issues involved in their everyday purchases. These customer focussed policies are combined with behind the scenes programmes of recycling and encouraging sustainable transport.

Director Kim Corbett said, “We are all thrilled to have been given these awards. It is nice to be recognised for some of the work we have been doing, but it is just the beginning. We have plans to adopt a green delivery service for our customers, we are continuing to update our environmental labelling system and we constantly put pressure on suppliers to make improvements in supply chain issues. We believe that certification processes are going strong in the industry and while still nascent, these are the only way to improve raw material sustainability. The biggest change that we have noticed over the past 3 years is that manufacturers are finally getting the picture. Ultimately customer pressure drives the whole process of change, but we are pushing as hard as we can on their side!”
