Amid the fears of climate change, this year’s Business Yorkshire and Business North West events will be CarbonZero, as the organisers offset their carbon footprint through a tree planting programme. Business Yorkshire will offset its 53.32 tonnes produced from the event by planting 59 trees around the country, while Business North West will offset 61.38 tonnes by planting 69 trees.

Working with co2balance, event organiser Nationwide Media Group, has calculated the carbon emissions that the conferences will produce through delegate travel, heating and lighting of the venue.

Suzanne Longworth, UK Director (North) at co2balance, says, “Business Yorkshire and Business North West have undertaken full greenhouse gas audits in order to establish their carbon footprints. By planting the trees, we are delighted that both events will be completely CarbonZero. Nationwide Media Group is setting an example to the other event organisers out there and is proving that putting on a large-scale show can be environmentally friendly.”

“Putting on shows like Business Yorkshire and Business North West obviously uses a lot of resources and we are committed to reducing our impact on climate change,” comments Scott Hider, Managing Director of Nationwide Media Group. “Events like these produce thousands of tonnes of carbon every year which are seriously damaging to the environment. In the wake of the credit crunch, there is an even greater need for businesses to be meeting with customers and prospects. By working with co2balance, we can ensure businesses can maximise networking opportunities whilst reducing the environmental impact.”

Business Yorkshire will take place on 1-2 October at Doncaster Racecourse, with Business North West held at Manchester Central on 19-20 November.
