• ClusterScale launches its new real-time database mirror product, ClusterMirror - the first high availability database appliance of its kind

London, UK, 10th July 2008: ClusterScale, an expert in load balancing, open source, traffic management and database clustering, today announced the launch of its new network-mirrored block device, ClusterMirror. ClusterMirror is a unique cost-effective database appliance for any business requiring high availability. It provides a plug and play database clustering appliance which creates an exact physical duplicate of your database in real time.

Malcolm Turnbull, Founder & Technical Architect for ClusterScale, comments: “ClusterMirror is something totally new, not just for our company but for the IT market in general, which is exciting. Up until now high-availability options have been limited and incredibly expensive, meaning companies have been forced to balance budget against risk. ClusterMirror is extremely cost-effective by comparison, while still providing the peace of mind that the database information is protected. Our products start at £17,995, while other products in the market cost significantly more and take up more storage space. It is just surprising that, as far as I know, we’re the only ones doing it.”

ClusterMirror uses a network-mirrored block device which employs synchronous data replication, transparent to the file system. ClusterMirror leverages this technology with the open-source Linux Heartbeat package to provide seamless redundancy of the database server and its applications; all data is synchronously written to both nodes, with automatic failover handled by Linux Heartbeat in a matter of seconds.

Malcolm Turnbull, Founder & Technical Architect for ClusterScale, explains: “Normal replication is asynchronous - this means data is copied from one machine to another in blocks, which results in a delay in the actual copying, which is likely to result in transaction loss or failure of the master machine. Often this delay is determined by network bandwidth, resource availability and system load. However, with ClusterMirror, replication is synchronous so the secondary node’s data is committed at the same time as the primary, meaning data consistency and integrity is guaranteed.”

Key features include:

• The ClusterMirror appliance comes pre-configured and optimised
• ClusterMirror uses commodity Gigabit Ethernet links
• It is incredibly fast to install and easy-to-use with an intuitive web interface
• No shared storage or specialist hardware is required
• Replicates your database in real time without encroaching on your infrastructure
• True synchronous replication with no performance impact
• Far more cost effective than a typical shared storage cluster
• Removes your worries with round-the-clock support and an on-site hardware engineer
• Delivers an instant disaster recovery solution

Recommended retail prices starts from £17,995, with generous sales margins for resellers and distributors. To find out more, please contact Stephen Wilde on: 0844 669 8375, or email:
