OSS Group opens new fragmentation plant

A new purpose built hazardous waste fragmentation plant has been opened by the OSS Group at its site in Mersyside.

The new plant can process all types of used oil, fuel and air filters plus other metal and plastic waste such as empty containers up to 240 litres. These are shredded and separated into the basic elements of metal, plastics, paper and residual waste oils.

OSS will recover the oil for use as a feedstock for its fuel oil product, CFO®. The various solid wastes will be cleaned, packaged and sent to various re-processors. As the shredded materials will have been cleaned they will have ceased to be classed as a hazardous waste.

As well as dealing with wastes collected through its own nationwide “HazTech” hazardous waste collection service, the use of the fragmentation plant will be available to third party customers at commercial rates for items delivered to its site in Knowsley, Merseyside. The service will include the full cleaning of containers used to transport filters or other items.

According to Group Sales and Marketing Manager Mark Bridgens, “This is one of very few such plants in the UK that is licensed to receive and handle hazardous waste. Our process, now classed as the best available technology, means that virtually all the waste we receive gets recycled and we are rapidly moving to a position where 100% will be recycled or re-used.”

OSS can be contacted on 0870 2401 055.
