Snappy Holidays! Could your travel pix be award-winners? Wednesday 23 July 2008 PDF Print Take some great photos on your summer holiday and you could be in with a chance to win one of the fantastic prizes in this year’s Travel Photographer of the Year competition. The competition is open to amateur and professional photographers of all ages, and there are categories on lots of different themes, to suit all holiday destinations. There’s even a special category for inexperienced amateurs who use camera phones, so you don’t need to own an expensive camera to take part. There’s also Young TPOTY - a free to enter competition for youngsters aged 16 and under, which gives the kids a good incentive to get snapping. This year’s overall winner will join High & Wild as part of the ground crew on the 2009 Everest Skydive Expedition, an incredible opportunity for a photographer to capture amazing images as the world’s elite skydivers freefall amongst some of the world’s highest mountains. And there are other highly photogenic prize holidays for the three portfolio category winners, in the form of Intrepid Travel trips along the River Ganges in India, to colourful and fascinating Cuba and to see the mountain gorillas of Uganda. The TPOTY prize list also features some of the best photographic equipment available. This includes a large format Linhof Technorama panoramic camera, Adobe professional imaging software, Wacom interactive pen displays and pen tablets, Iridius and PhotoIconic photography courses, and Lexar Professional CompactFlash cards and Dual-slot USB card readers. As well as receiving some great prizes, the winners and other highly-ranked photographers will see their images feature in the new Travel Photographer of the Year book, Journey Three, and displayed at TPOTY exhibitions. Entry costs £10 for a single image category and £15 for a portfolio category, and entry to Young TPOTY is free. Images may be submitted as prints, or uploaded via the online entry system on www.tpoty.com by the closing date of September 9th, and there are plenty of hints and tips on the website to help you get the best out of your holiday shots. So why not put those holiday pix to very good use? Ends For further press information or images from previous TPOTY competitions, please contact Karen Coe.
