Some of Europe’s top golfers are requesting interactive video games to be placed inside their executive jets on the way to and from world tournaments.

The UK’s biggest private jet company Ocean Sky, whose jets feature in the new James Bond film ‘Quantum of Solace’ say that an increasing number of golfing pros are choosing video games related to their sport, over and above more passive forms of entertainment like films or music.

According to Ocean Sky the most popular game is Capcom’s “We Love Golf”, billed as the latest ‘must have’ title for the Nintendo Wii console.

Ocean Sky’s Niki Rokni says “It’s surprising, because you’d think they might want a break from the sport after a tournament, but certain game titles are incredibly popular with our sporting passengers. We provide anything people ask for on our flights, so when a client says they want a certain game and a console, we get it for them, and quickly”.

Longer range jet cabins are large enough to swing a full size golf club in, but according to Ocean Sky, many golfers are requesting the Nintendo Wii console which uses a small wireless handset as a golf club.

“A lot of our flyers are highly competitive, successful individuals, so some of them use We Love Golf’s internet function through our in-flight satellite data links to challenge and play people all over the world.” says Rokni. “It’s incredible what technology allows people to do.”

The average professional golf drive is about on seventh of a mile, but the equivalent drive at 35,000 feet at an airspeed of 600 knots would have a range of just under 10 statute miles.

According to cabin crew, other popular games include some of the other competive sporting titles that comes with the Wii console.
