Climate Savers Computing Initiative Gains Momentum With Additional UK Support Monday 28 July 2008 PDF Print July 28, 2008 S3 Consulting Joins WWF as UK Leader on Climate Savers Computing Initiative. Climate-friendly IT service provider S3 Consulting has joined leading global charity World Wildlife Fund a member of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative. The Initiative is a global movement backed by companies such as Dell, EDS, Google, HP, Intel, Lenovo, Microsoft, Pacific Gas and Electric, and the World Wildlife Fund that is dedicated to reducing the energy consumption of computers by 50 percent by 2010. Having worked closely with the European sub-committee of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative for nearly a year, S3 has cemented its relationship with and support for the campaign via both hands-on participation and direct sponsorship of funds, to assist with the realisation of its goals in a direct, and meaningful hands-on capacity. The sub-committee plays a key role in the programme, determining specific activities and initiatives at a local level. By 2010, the initiative seeks to reduce global CO2 emissions from the operation of computers by 54 million tons per year, equivalent to the annual output of 11 million cars or 10–20 coal-fired power plants. Formed in 2004, S3 Consulting specialises in providing climate friendly enterprise IT solutions whilst encouraging businesses to align their business and IT functions more closely. The business strives to reduce IT users’ carbon footprint in terms of infrastructure - reducing costs whilst increasing business productivity and value. Arne Josefsberg, Microsoft’s representative to the Climate Savers Computing Initiative board of directors commented: “We are delighted that businesses at the sharp end of the IT sector, such as S3, are taking the initiative and lending their support to our campaign in a way that demonstrates their awareness of the significance and potential impact of this issue. It’s through these collaborations that the Climate Savers Computing Initiative is working to effect widespread change.” Chris Bullock, CEO of S3 Consulting added: “Having been a member of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative for approaching a year, S3 has always tried to deliver a power efficient message in its service delivery – indeed carbon saving is very close to our hearts. The ability to work even more closely with the initiative offers S3 the opportunity to play a major part in helping organisations realise the importance of striving towards a greener computing landscape.” For more information, please visit: www.s3consulting.co.uk or call: 0845 686 0530. -Ends – About Climate Savers Computing The Climate Savers Computing Initiative is a non-profit organization established by environmentally aware consumers, corporations, and environmental protection organizations.
