Scandicards ’99 Payments Conference, Stockholm, September 8, 1999

Hypercom Financial Terminals AB today introduced the HFT 916, a high-security, self-service load device that will allow consumers throughout Europe to transfer funds from their checking account to new chip-based electronic purse cards. Designed specifically for E-purse providers who want to provide fast, convenient and highly-secure service to their customers virtually anywhere, anytime, the compact Hypercom solution can be deployed at banks, in shopping malls, airports, train and bus stations and other high-traffic areas.

Ted Satchell, senior vice president, Hypercom Corporation’s European Transaction Systems Group comments: "Hypercom’s HFT 916 self-service terminal load device packs the highest levels of security, accessibility and ease-of-use that are critical toward building mass consumer acceptance of electronic purse cards."

An enhanced version of Hypercom’s HFT 900, the HFT 916 complies with the most stringent global banking security requirements to protect the consumer, according to Leif Nilsson, Hypercom’s European director of R&D. The self-service stored-value reload device houses a robust metal keyboard and smart card reader that are physically encapsulated. Communications links between the smart card reader and the unit’s electronics are encryption protected. Sensors are used to detect unauthorised access. For added safety and flexibility, the Hypercom HFT 916 also features a large backlit display and internal communications modem for public switched telephone network (PSTN) connections or the GSM mobile telecommunications network.

Based in Linköping, Sweden, Hypercom Financial Terminals AB is a recognized provider of flexible and highly secure payment terminals and PIN pads for the POS environment,
and load devices and terminals for the Swedish E-PURSE, Proton-based, CASH application.
