FOOD JUDGES SING YODEL’S PRAISES
CRITERION ICES’ Mango Yogurt Ice Wins Great Taste Award
Criterion Ices’ Mango Yodel yogurt ice has won a prestigious 2008 Great Taste Award. The marriage of mango with tangy, local organic yogurt, fresh cream and British sugar won an enviable two stars.
The Mango Yodel is one of five Criterion yogurt ices that are freshly made from natural ingredients at the company’s family-run Suffolk farm. The others are Blackberry (itself a 2007 Great Taste Award winner), Raspberry, Mandarin and Natural. All are delightfully tangy and refreshing and made from the highest quality ingredients that result in yogurt ices packed with taste and goodness.
“We are delighted to have our Mango Yodel recognised by the Great Taste Awards judges and particularly pleased to be awarded two gold stars,” says Jim Valenti, sales manager for Criterion Ices. “Our Blackberry Yodel is often considered the flagship of the range and is extremely popular,” says Valenti. “However, the Mango is a superbly balanced, full-flavoured ice of which we are very proud - it’s one of my favourites, truth be told! I fully expect its two star Great Taste Award will help its sales and profile lift very nicely,” says Valenti.
Costing around £4.50 for a 500ml tub, Yodel is available from farm shops, delicatessens and independent food retailers of quality – the company chooses not to supply supermarkets. To find a stockist visit www.criterion-ices.co.uk and click on “Store Locator” or call 07778 842090.

About the Great Taste Awards
The Great Taste Awards is organised by the Guild of Fine Food and often referred to as the Oscars of the food industry. This year it is celebrating its 15th anniversary. A Great Taste Award is the authoritative, independent standard for Britain’s fine food sector: more and more consumers recognise the gold & black logo as the benchmark for independently proven fine food.
The Great Taste Awards judging standards, devised by the Guild of Fine Food, are the most rigorous in the UK. Every entry is blind tasted by teams of experts. By the time it earns gold, it will have been assessed by at least three different teams. This year’s judges included Alex James, farmer, journalist and bass player with Blur, Mark Hix, the chef’s chef, Charles Campion from Evening Standard & The Independent, Tom Parker-Bowles of UKTV Food’s Market Kitchen and national food journalist Fiona Sims.
Food critic Charles Campion comments “This competition has really come of age, and year by year the standard of entries gets higher and higher. To win a Gold at the Great Taste Awards is a terrific achievement.”
