Chessington, UK: Specialist value-added distributor Bell Micro has announced that, with immediate effect, it will be offering customers access to Emulex' significant new 8Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs.

The pioneering technology is perfectly suited to a range of businesses and will run on all major enterprise operating systems. Not only this, but it is both future proof and backwards compatible – performing well on existing 4Gb/s fibre channel configurations, and paving the way for 8Gb/s implementations. Bell Micro will help its customers to pick the right implementation and offer ongoing support.

By using the products, Bell Micro customers will be able to consolidate more resources, free up servers and reduce procurement and management costs. Importantly they can also support regulatory compliance, ensuring the integrity of data and providing end-to-end information protection.

Fabian Hintzke, product manager for Emulex at Bell Micro, said that the release would definitely help firms better manage virtualisation plans.

“Virtualising servers can really help firms get more from their resources, but with a 4Gb/s connection you soon run into problems. With these 8Gb/s systems you get the extra headroom that you need both now and for the future so not only do you benefit more from your bandwidth but you also have the flexibility to consolidate your server environment. We are expecting a very positive take up on this new technology as a result.”

Ideally suited for large environments, the Emulex release offers support for large numbers of simultaneous targets, and a large number of virtual machines. Its high bus and fibre channel speeds, as well as lower latency and CPU offload, makes them ideally suited to online transactional processing and databases, as well as for back office functions such as data replication and disaster recovery. Additionally, each will give firms the increased I/O processing speed and throughput that is needed by business critical databases and transaction processing applications.

“The availability of the Emulex LightPulse LPe12000 family of 8Gb/s Fibre channel host bus adapters (HBAs) was a significant announcement by the firm, and Bell Micro is delighted to be in a position to offer it to customers,” concluded Hintzke.
