CAMBRIDGE, UK, 13 September 1999 Dr David Cleevely (founder and
managing director of Analysys, the Cambridge-based communications
consultancy) today welcomed the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, to St
John's Innovation Centre in Cambridge for the launch of the
Government's ecommerce report, entitled ecommerce @ its best.uk.

"The Prime Minister's presence here today, and the recommendations
of the report, both testify to the role that Cambridge has played,
and will continue to play, in the development of high-tech
industries in the UK and Europe," commented Dr Cleevely.

Dr Cleevely has played a significant part in the preparation of
the report through his work in the Cabinet Committee on ecommerce.
At the same time, his company Analysys has played a prominent role
in encouraging BT to bring forward the introduction of advanced
telecoms technologies in Cambridge; the Prime Minister announced
today that BT is to roll out ADSL, the technology which will bring
interactive broadband applications into business and homes in
Cambridge.

Analysys has also brought together three major players in
telecoms, BT, NTL and equipment manufacturer Alcatel, to support
the Cambridge Network in its establishment of a new Broadband
Application Development Centre in Cambridge.

Dr Cleevely said: "I am delighted that the work we have been
undertaking through the Cabinet Office has moved forward so
swiftly, and is already having such a positive impact in the form
of today's announcements of new infrastructure programs and
development activity."

After briefing the Prime Minister on the role of new technologies
and their implications for the development of the economy and
government policy in this area, Dr Cleevely chaired the
announcement of the report's recommendations and the
question-and-answer session that followed.
