Lingoo - The new website dedicated to improving French exchange holidays for school children Tuesday 2 September 2008 PDF Print Lingoo a website which enables parents to arrange for their child to stay with like-minded families abroad, is offering families the chance to register their details for half the normal membership fee. Families who register and pay for a subscription on Lingoo before 15th October 2008 will receive a 50% discount on the normal 70 Euro annual fee. The new community website is dedicated to improving language learning for school children, primarily through language exchange holidays or by paying to stay with a host family. It is the only service available which allows families to select like-minded families themselves and to choose which exchange family to partner with for such holidays. Initially focusing on French exchanges, the site has growing numbers of Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and German families. According to Anne Goldstein, founder of the site, “The best way to improve a language is to practise it in the country where it is spoken. However, it can be difficult to find a way of doing this that really suits the individual child. Through Lingoo, language exchange and paid stay holidays for children are organised directly between families. There is no agent involved. Parents can select which family they would like to set up a language holiday with – based on similar aged children, similar interests, similar values or similar religious beliefs. They will have the opportunity to get to know them online before committing to the language exchange or paid stay holidays. Lingoo is a safe and secure site.” Lingoo also appeals to people who are interested in welcoming school children from abroad into their families as paying guests. By being a homestay family through Lingoo, you are able to select a child from a like-minded family abroad and get to know them before their visit. Your role is to help them to understand about our culture and, in the process, you and your family gain greater knowledge about theirs. Anne Goldstein concludes, “Learning another language and immersing yourself in another culture is a truly enriching experience. People who can speak languages are more employable and often have a greater understanding of their own language as well as a more open-minded approach to other people’s cultures. The forthcoming European day of languages, held on the 26 September 2008 to celebrate language and cultural diversity, really inspired our vision for the project. Lingoo puts parents in control of organising tailor-made linguistic holidays for their children, enabling them to gain a positive insight into the life and language of another country.” For further information or for a half priced membership confirmed before 15th October 2008, visit www.lingoo.eu Please contact: Peter Goldstein at Anglofone Media – Lingoo UK Representatives.
