A crystal incrusted Swarovski tricycle made especially for the recent London charity event Shoreditch Grand Prix 2008, which raised thousands for charities and social enterprise has been placed for auction on eBay, in hopes of raising even more money for great causes, along with four other trikes all designed by professional artists for the event.

The trike, designed by Alice in Tokyo is decorated in genuine Swarovski crystals, and during the Shoreditch Grand Prix was the focus for an ITV news broadcast.

On August 31st 2008 thirty teams of three heroes blasted around the streets of Shoreditch on children’s toy tricycles raising money for charities, worthy causes and social entrepreneur projects that benefit the community. Every team raised money for worthy causes, highlighted the issues of congestion and pollution in London and gave everyone a good laugh in the process. To further support the social entrepreneur projects that participated in the event, 5 trikes have been customised by artists and will be auctioned on eBay.

The custom trike, which can be seen here: was the centre of attention at the event, which was organised by UnLtd, the charity which supports social entrepreneurs and creative agency Thin Martian, who specialise in digital media.

100% of the final price of the charity auction will go to, the foundation for social entrepreneur, who will then donate all the money raised to the Social Enterprise projects which took part in the gruelling 5 lap race around Shoreditch, London, all of whom are intent on making a difference to the world around us.

Bidding has started at £100, and the item will end around the same time as the other four artist-designed trikes on the 12th of September, all before 6pm. Also available on eBay is one of the trikes actually raced on by the team Enabled by Design.

Alberto Nardelli of, the social network offshoot of UnLtd, and one of the event organisers said,

“The event was a huge success, and really captured the imagination of the national press as well as the public. The trikes designed for us are incredible, and show the creativity and brilliance of the artists who donated them.

“The aim of the Shoreditch Grand Prix was to create the charity marathon for the YouTube generation: a platform to support social entrepreneurs and local community projects in meaningful and exciting ways - I think everybody involved has proved that charity can be beneficial as well as fun and light-hearted, and we only hope that Shoreditch Grand Prix 2009 will be bigger and better!”
