10th September 2008: Newcomer to the UK market, e-conomic (www.e-conomic.co.uk), has taken the accounting industry by storm in its first year and has been short-listed alongside industry giants, such as Sage, QuickBooks and MYOB, in the Software Satisfaction Awards 2008 for Accounting and Finance. e-conomic has been short-listed for the web-hosted accounting category and received an honourable mention in the small business accounting software category.

The award scheme is run by Sift Media, publisher of AccountingWEB, in association with the Business Application Software Developers’ Association (BASDA). The results are based on the views of buyers and end-users and almost 6,000 people participated in this year’s survey.

Commenting on this year’s awards, John Stokdyk, technology editor of AccountingWEB.co.uk, said online accounting software providers like e-conomic “demonstrate the growing reach of web-based software as a service (SaaS) systems. The numbers of respondents who used such software more than trebled, accounting for just under 10% of the accounting and finance sample.”

Mark Davies, managing director of e-conomic in the UK, commented: “The fact that a newcomer such as e-conomic can successfully compete with the colossal traditional desktop providers is a remarkable achievement and great validation for the SaaS model. We feel honoured that so many customers have taken the time to register and vote for us. Customer satisfaction is very important to us. Even though our offering is online, we take great pride in building relationships with our customers, meeting them face-to-face and supporting them by telephone and email.”

The winners will be announced at a celebratory awards ceremony at The Brewery in London on 30 October 2008.
