Central Law Training’s (CLT) course and conference training material undergoes constant updates and changes. The task of managing, storing and archiving this quantity of material, adding amendments, lecturer notes and updates is a huge task and one that was taking its toll on the CLT IT department.
Lee Smith of the CLT’s internal IT support team explains how this email management problem manifested itself. “We have around 200 real time users, 50 of which generate 80% of our email storage. Our users generate huge documents that take hours to backup and they are commonly recalled from archive for updates and changes. Add to that problem that the files were stored as .pst files that frequently became corrupted and took hours to repair and rebuild. We were dedicating many man hours to simply repairing .pst files, hours during which our users could not access these documents.”
Lee continues, “Backup was also an unnecessarily tedious job consuming at least two hours a day. So with an estimated 24 hours a month taken up with repairing and compacting .pst files coupled with 2 hours per day on backup, we were we were close to 65 hours a month repairing and backing up these files; files that were unavailable to users whilst being repaired.”
