Nu-lok & Seeco case study - Keston image

Nu-lok selected for a range of prestigious buildings, including The Wentworth Estate

The Wentworth Estate, located in Virginia Water, Surrey, describes itself as “like entering another world; the leafy and rhododendron-lined drive through the estate offers glimpses through the trees of lush fairways and manicured greens.” Leading roof tiling company Seeco shared this vision of entering another world when it started using Nu-lok’s patented roofing system earlier this year. Dedicated training enabled its contractors to quickly get up to speed using Nu-lok’s system, which replaces traditional wooden battens with a lightweight, galvanised steel grid system. Seeco was immediately impressed by the fact that Nu-lok ‘does what it says on the tin’; providing fast installation by the single lapping of natural slates, waterproofed by the provision of interlocking channels between each slate.

These two worlds have now become one as Seeco nears completion of The Wentworth Estate installation, which incorporates 300m² of Nu-lok’s roofing system and SSQ Riverstone slate. The buildings within this beautiful Surrey setting required a traditional looking roof and an authentic match for the sensitive surroundings. SSQ Riverstone slate has a distinctive, natural grey/green colour, which blends in perfectly.

A different Nu-lok project that has already been completed by Seeco – and one which prompted the company to specify Nu-lok for Wentworth – is a development of luxury flats and apartments in Keston, Kent. This job required a traditional look with a natural slate finish, but also needed a ‘quick to fit’ solution. Seeco selected Nu-lok for ticking all of these boxes.

Roy Thomas, Roof Tiling Manager at Seeco, said: “Nu-lok is so easy to use, within a day of using the system, everyone loved it! We have four different roofing teams currently using Nu-lok and they are all happy using it and are keen to use it again for future projects. Speed and simplicity of installation is the key, as it allows us all to do our job more efficiently, while also lowering costs and wastage on site. Nu-lok’s seamless integration of solar products is also critical, as it effectively future proofs their solution.”

Roy continued: “I have seen a lot of new products in roofing over the years and naturally, as traditional contractors, we were curious and even a little sceptical. We can now safely say Nu-lok is one innovation that works superbly, and will become a long term alternative to battens and nails!”

Nu-lok’s roofing system can be used on a range of complex and intricate jobs: it has even been used on the roof of a mosque in Blackburn, demonstrating its extensive versatility. In addition, Nu-lok offers an unprecedented 50 year written guarantee against colour fade and structural defects of all metal components, which are covered by a BBA certificate.

Wayne Mills, joint Managing Director at Nu-lok, said: “Seeco is one of a select group of Nu-lok approved UK roofing contractors, having achieved accredited status by completing our training course and then securing sign off on at least two Nu-lok projects. They are now fully au fait with installing our system and are ready to take on an increasing number of Nu-lok jobs, spurred on by the extremely fast installation times, which makes our system so cost-effective.”

Wayne continued: “To help other contractors secure approved status, Nu-lok is organising a series of training days at the CITB Training Centre in Erith later this year. Visit us on our stand at Interbuild ‘08 to discuss this further – the approved contractor scheme is limited to a select number of contractors in each region, so act now to avoid disappointment!”

To discuss Nu-lok’s Approved Roofing Contractor scheme visit stand 05-G50 at Interbuild, from 26-30 October 2008 at the NEC Birmingham, or contact Wayne Mills, Joint MD of Nu-lok directly on 01933 423344.

About Seeco
Formed in 1979 primarily as a traditional roof tiling company, NFRC member Seeco worked through the 1980's on large developments, including new housing estates, commercial and civic properties. During the 1990’s the direction changed with the formation of two separate divisions, Seeco Roof Tiling – RT and Seeco Single Ply – SP. RT concentrated on roof tiling and slating to civic and commercial properties, whilst SP commenced trading as an installer of the Sika Trocal single membrane system. This form of roofing has been used successfully for over 25 years on industrial, commercial and Government buildings. During the new millennium Seeco has seen the single-ply division of the business expanding through the roof tiling company. Seeco has been able to achieve continued high quality workmanship by employing Seeco trained staff, some of whom have over twenty years experience with the company.

The company headquarters is based in the South East of the UK at Leigh-on-Sea, Essex - with a Suffolk branch based in Needham Market, near Ipswich, serving East Anglia and the East and West Midlands.
