Half an hour is all it takes to change a young life for the better. Tuesday, 14th October has been officially designated ‘Half-an-Hour Day’. This newly-established ‘awareness day’ centres on raising national awareness of the 30-minute career speaking opportunities with not-for-profit Growing Ambitions – UK-wide.

People from the workplace in all kinds of organisations and businesses, in all parts of the country, are being urged to sign up for a one-off commitment of ONE half hour of their time ONCE. This will help young people in their regions to receive wider careers information.

“I want to focus Britain’s workforce on really starting to make Corporate Social Responsibility a reality in their communities by signing up and offer to speak in a local school or college. Every half-hour session will make a significant difference to young people when they are deciding about the job they may like to do,” says Sally Davis, MD of Growing Ambitions

How to register as a volunteer

Simply follow the 3 simple steps below and then wait to be contacted by a careers adviser. Remember, signing up is once only. That’s all we ask. Then you can opt out in a few mouse clicks, and no questions asked.

1 Go to

2 Click ‘Offer to Speak’, then click ‘Register’ and complete the form – it takes just a few minutes. Then we quickly verify your email address.

3 Next, log in at ‘Workplace login’ on the home page and on your Account screen, click ‘Offer Slot’ and tick ‘Flexible’.

That’s it. Now when a school, college or university near you wants you to speak, you will be contacted by email to fix a suitable date and time.

To opt out:

Log in to your Speaker Account at any time and ‘untick’ your boxes to opt out. This makes your account ‘invisible’. You can opt in and out as often as you like.

Make Tuesday 14th October the day you volunteer to change a young life.
