Businesses that switch to recycled materials make a significant contribution to energy and water savings, as well as enhancing their own reputation. In the area of stationery, Tru-Green is the only padded envelope made from 100% biodegradable, compostable and recyclable materials. The envelopes re-use materials that would otherwise be sent to landfill, such as plant waste, jute and cotton rags.

A new ten-pack size has been specially created to try and encourage more British businesses to adopt green posting and packing options. Packaging has come to the fore with the rise of internet shopping and an increased number of businesses sending products directly to consumers. Not only will switching to a greener alternative make a difference to the environment, but it will also show a green commitment to the numerous employees, suppliers, customers and business contacts that will use and receive them.

Tru-Green inventor and packaging entrepreneur Prakash Korde said:

“Without doubt being green is the hot topic of the 21st Century. Whether it’s recycling empty wine bottles, getting on our bicycles or just making sure appliances aren’t left on standby we are becoming an increasingly eco-aware nation. We can be eco-angels at home but step into the world of work and it’s easy to leave these measures behind. It can seem daunting and out of an individuals control to make small changes, but choosing recycled stationery can be part of a bigger move towards contributing to the energy used – and wasted – in the workplace.”

Tru-Green envelopes re-use materials and can be fully recycled, even composted, when they are no longer required. At between 30p to 52p an envelope they cost the same as standard, less environmentally friendly padded envelopes and will protect items in the post as securely, and are as strong as, if not stronger, than conventional padded envelopes. The back of each envelope shows they are “100% reusable, recyclable, compostable and biodegradeable” and aims to encourage re-use where possible.

Notes to editors:

Tru-Green has also committed to ensuring as many businesses as possible can use the envelopes by offering a special rate and trial for not for profit organisations and charities.

To order Tru-Green envelopes call 0845 330 7765 or 01225 771334 for the special rate for charities.

The envelopes are currently manufactured in on of the poorest regions of mid-West India, creating livelihoods for hundreds of people. The manufacturing process is flexible and the company is exploring potential for UK farmers to replicate a similar process here, making a home grown product.

Hints and tips - three steps to make your workplace greener:

1. Check which of your workplace items could be replaced by recycled products. Stationery is normally an easy place to start, make sure your printer paper contains at least 60% recycled materials, if not more.

2. Envelopes and letter heads are often the face of a company, so check them as well as other behind the scenes materials like filing products, folders and files.

3. Look at your hygiene purchases too, like paper towels, to check they are also made from recycled materials.
