University Hospital of North Staffordshire NHS Trust selects Datix

Datix Risk Management software enables the Trust to manage incidents, complaints and claims data, to improve patient services, governance and compliance with standards

DATIX Ltd, the UK market leader in software for quality and safety in healthcare, has announced that University Hospital of North Staffordshire NHS Trust has implemented its DATIX Risk Management software. The DATIX solution was selected from competitive products for its proven reputation and extensive use within the NHS. DATIX is used by managers and staff at the Trust.

Claire Rylands, Development Manager in the Clinical Governance, Audit and Risk Department at University Hospital of North Staffordshire NHS Trust said, “We need one centralised system to record information from all the different aspects covered by the department – claims, complaints, health and safety and governance.

It has all of the modules that we need to bring the departmental information together and we can link files from different areas to allow us to use the information more intelligently. We have been really pleased with the success of DATIX. It touches a large number of staff and is now integral to our operations – we couldn’t do without it.”

The Trust has implemented key modules of DATIX including; Incident Reporting, Risk Register and Assurance Framework, Complaints Handling, Standards and Inquests management.

The Trust uses the DATIX solution to produce a Corporate Assurance Framework Report. Using the advanced functionality within DATIX, the team produces a monthly exception report from the Risk Register module of all corporate risks aligned to the updated action plan, also integrating information from incidents, complaints and claims. This report enables The Trust to prioritise corporate risk at the highest level, as well as manage key tasks and actions that need to be undertaken.

Another benefit has been the ability to flag new adverse incidents with a certain risk score, identifying potential connections at the earliest opportunity to enable managed action.

The DATIX solution also enables logging of different types of information via a web portal, making it widely accessible to Trust staff. The Standards module has enabled the team to gather and record information to meet NHS assessments criteria more easily. Each clinical division is able to log the evidence themselves, resulting in a more comprehensive record.
