It’s what fans of BOTOX® have long suspected, but the news that a little prick can change your skin for the better is now official!
A new study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology by Dr Patrick Bowler, Court House Clinic, London UK, confirms that the long term use of BOTOX® can reverse the ageing process by permanently erasing forehead expression lines and remodelling the skin, by allowing it to ‘rest’ and renew.
Dr Bowler says: “We all know Botox improves lines temporarily. I have found that with short-term use, expression lines still remain, but over the long term creases actually disappear, meaning the smoothing effect does not wear off when the Botox does. Botox gives the deep skin creases the chance to repair so in the long term wrinkles can end up looking creaseless.”
BOTOX® for forehead expression and frown lines is the most popular cosmetic procedure in the UK, due to its reversible and non-invasive nature. Dr Bowler’s study evaluated two subjects presenting with glabelar, forehead, and periorbital facial lines who were treated with BOTOX® toxin type A (BOTOX®, Allergan, Irvine, CA, USA) for over a 7-year period. At the end of the seven year study skin quality in the two case studies continued to improve over time, revealing a smoother, enhanced, yet “natural” look. In particular, non-reducible forehead lines were effaced suggesting dermal and epidermal remodelling over long-term treatment. There was no evidence of development of any new wrinkles secondary to BOTOX® use, and both subjects continue to report high levels of treatment satisfaction. No safety issues were raised.
Dr. Patrick Bowler is a leading Cosmetic Doctor in the UK. He is the Medical Director of Court House Clinics, a founder member of the British Association of Cosmetic Doctors and the author of The Nervous Girls Guide to Nip & Tuck
