While retailers are seeing sales slow down as consumers feel the bite from the credit crunch, the leading person to person swapping site in the UK had its busiest ever month in September 2008.

With over 350,000 visitors, a record number of new members and over 12 million pages looked at by its users it is clear that savvy savers are resorting to the age old method of swapping to save money. Managing Director Paul Kay says "it's no longer shop till you drop but swap till you drop, and then maybe swap some more! It is our belief that this upward trend will continue all the time that we have less disposable income than ever. Rising prices and empty pockets have lead to new generations "discovering" swapping. Swapping IS the new consumerism."

Swapz members cover all genders and age groups and are united in saving money, getting things they want in exchange for items they no longer want or need and by stopping unwanted items from ending up in landfill. has almost 80,000 active listings in categories as diverse as cars, clothing, mobile phones and even skill swapz. Thousands of members complete thousands of swapz each week.
