Notebook users can now connect via digital or analogue phones
directly, giving complete communications flexibility worldwide

Portable connectivity specialist PPCP is now shipping a
combination 56Kbps modem and 10BaseT / 2 Ethernet PC Card which allows users
to easily and flexibly connect to both digital and analogue phone
sockets through a Digital Phone Interface (DPI) -- giving notebook PC
users almost total freedom for remote communications.

The Jack of Hearts PC Card from Ositech combines a V.90 modem and
10BaseT or 10Base2 Ethernet adapter. According to PPCP, the
card's DPI feature is unique in allowing users to connect directly to the
digital telephone systems found in most business and travel environments.
Connecting conventional cards to digital phone sockets can damage
them beyond repair, so in response many PC Card modems include limited
digital line protection. However, this does not solve the basic
problem of mobile users being unable to connect via digital systems.

DPI enables users to connect to both ordinary analogue phone
sockets, and also to digital PBX keysets via the handset socket of almost
any desktop telephone unit, enabling the user to dial through the
digital PBX. This also means users need not carry multiple
country-specific phone adapters when travelling internationally.

As an Ethernet adapter, the Jack of Hearts card automatically
senses the LAN medium to which it's connected, and configures itself
accordingly. The PC Card supports all of the major operating environments,
including Windows NT, Windows 95 and 98, Unixware, SCO Unix and Macintosh.

The card also supports GSM and analogue cellular capability, and
can be upgraded to give data working with popular handsets from leading
manufacturers including Nokia and Ericsson. The card
automatically detects when it is connected via a digital telephone system, and
is supplied with a software wizard which automatically guides users
throughthe connection process to digital phones, making connection easy
and intuitive.

John Nolan, managing director of PPCP commented: "The Jack of
Hearts card gives mobile professionals the capability to communicate in
almost any office environment, as DPI delivers almost universal dial-up
connectivity. It's a tremendous problem-solving product for
corporate users."

The Jack of Hearts modem / Ethernet adaptor is priced at £191 RRP,
excluding VAT. GSM upgrades are priced from £87.
