Eco Mother and Baby online retailer Naturebotts has found a great way to reduce waste this Christmas by re-using packaging from local businesses to ship its orders to customers.
Did you know that 3 million tonnes of waste is dumped during Christmas in the UK -enough to fill 120 million wheelie bins. Around half of the waste produced by households at Christmas could easily be recycled, but last year almost 90% ended up in the dustbin. This is one of the environmental consequences of Christmas and so for those of us who are looking for a green Christmas as well as a white one, thank heavens for a great idea set up by eco Mother and Baby website Naturebotts.
Naturebotts has teamed up with local businesses and use the boxes they would ordinarily destroy to deliver their goods in - keeping the environmental impact of the business down to an absolute minimum. So Naturebotts customers should not be alarmed if their nappies and wipes arrive in a business stationary box – the company isn’t diversifying into selling photocopying paper!
Caitlin Castillo, founder of Naturebotts says, “I had been searching for an eco friendly supplier of packaging for us to deliver our orders in. I was walking past neighbours bins just after Christmas and couldn’t help but notice all the packaging from Christmas presents - juice makers and the such that come in big boxes. It gave me the idea to go to companies who have this amount of wasted packaging every day and was delighted when our local businesses agreed to let us reuse their packaging that would otherwise have been destroyed. This not only offers a great environmental benefit but a cost saving too that we can pass on to our customers. So they can put a ‘natural’ smile on their face as they bring a baby into a world – a world that needs a bit of help….”
