gm2 Logistics showcased as environmental and virtualisation innovator

LONDON, UK, 30th October, 2008 – Compellent today announced that Fordway, one of its key UK channel partners, has won the ‘Data Centre Solution of the Year’ award at the 2008 Channel Network Awards.

Fordway, one of the UK’s leading networking and IT infrastructure specialists, won the award for its deployment of a virtualised storage platform and disaster recovery solution for gm2 Logistics, a warehousing and logistics company near London. Fordway combined Compellent’s SAN with VMware’s platform to deliver a fully virtualised storage and server environment. This enabled gm2 to lower the number of overall drives required and decrease its data centre footprint by a third, while also reducing power consumption and related carbon emissions. Aside from delivering a greener storage environment, Compellent’s SAN has also helped gm2 reduce its server management costs by around £9,000 per year.

Commenting on the award, Andy Hardy, Managing Director of International Sales at Compellent, said: “Compellent is dedicated to providing its partners with highly efficient data storage solutions that enable customers to save time and money, while reducing their carbon footprint. Compellent’s powerful solution, which includes automated tiered storage, thin provisioning and virtualisation, provides an efficient and resourceful SAN, which is increasingly important in light of the current turbulent economic situation. These facts have not gone unnoticed by the industry or our peers, and the Channel Network Award for Data Centre Solution of the Year represents the tenth such accolade for Compellent’s SAN during 2008.”

Richard Blanford, Managing Director of Fordway, said: “We’re delighted to have won this prestigious award, which recognises our commitment to providing leading-edge data and information management solutions to our clients. Partnering with Compellent and VMware allows us to create all-encompassing virtual storage- and server-based solutions with clear and tangible customer benefits to companies such as gm2 Logistics.”

Now in their 7th year, the Channel Network Awards reward excellence in the ICT and Comms Channels. These awards recognise business solutions supplied to clients by the channel and are not for products or so-called solutions bundled together by vendors or distributors. The Channel Network Awards 2008 comprised of 12 awards for the reseller channel, three awards for suppliers along with the Channel Company of the year and Channel Personality of the year awards. An independent panel of judges chose the winners from a selection of 66 finalists.
