Forget expensive buildings with high maintenance costs, tomorrow's data centres are more likely to be delivered, fully configured, on the back of a lorry. Customised shipping containers from LS Simple, crammed full of server and storage capacity, with their own power generation capabilities, ready to be plugged directly into the corporate network have become one of the cheapest, fastest and greenest ways for companies to implement data centre technology. These self-contained data centre units can be used to provide additional data centre capacity at a fraction of the cost of a new build, or configured to mirror an existing corporate data centre providing resilience and backup and ensuring continuity in the event of a disaster.

Reducing the initial outlay in data centre construction by 90%, the data centre in a box from LS Simple also delivers 20% more power and cooling efficiency than a traditional data centre.

The LS Simple data centre in a box consists of a specially designed shipping container base with insulated sides that houses a highly sophisticated design integrating both the IT and non-IT elements of the data centre. Self contained, the unit houses all the data centre technology resources together with their own power generation and cooling equipment.

Available in four sizes ranging from 10' to 40', the LS Simple data centre in a box is fully secure and uses the latest access control system to provides protection against unauthorised physical access, together with an electronic security system and cctv cameras, with optional digital recording facilities. Further protection of the container against unauthorised intrusion and theft has been addressed in the design of the steel container case.

To protect the server room and power supply area from unauthorised access as well as dust, water and other intrinsic impurities in the harsh outer environment, a small entrance corridor, which is camera monitored, forms part of the unique design.
Fully insulated, the ruggedized containers are capable of operating at temperatures from -40°C to +40°C. Requiring no permanent human occupation, these 'lights-out' boxes can therefore be run at hotter, or cooler, temperatures than a purpose built data centre that also has to take the working environment of the skilled operators into account. Using ambient air temperature to assist cooling, these boxes are much more efficient in cooling terms than traditional bricks and mortar data centres, where cooling can account for up to 50% of the energy supply.

Up to five industry-standard 42 unit racks can be installed in the server room together with additional separate racks to contain the associated networking infrastructure including both CAT 6a patch panels and fibre optical distribution racks. Because the temperature within the closed environment can be managed more closely through the remote monitoring of the state-of-the-art cooling system high density servers can be deployed increasing significantly the capacity of the LS Simple portable data centre.

Designed to complement existing data centres by providing added capacity or to provide resilience and ensure business continuity in the case of a disaster, the self-contained, transportable data centre from LS Simple offers a fast, cost effective and energy efficient solution.
