EPG Health Media, specialists in e-communication solutions and digital publishing for the health sector, today announced the launch of a new interactive Thrombosis Knowledge Centre within the web-based physician resource www.epgonline.org.

The new Thrombosis Knowledge Centre, developed in partnership with GlaxoSmithKline, is the most recent addition to the range of interactive guides that form part of the EPG Online ‘library’ of more than twenty Knowledge Centres. Others include Asthma, Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia, Human Papillomavirus (HPV) & Cervical Cancer, Parkinson's Disease and Renal Anaemia.

“Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is the third most common cardiovascular disease after coronary disease and stroke. Physicians are required to identify, manage and assess the severity of the condition, while taking into account their patients history and potential risks. But deciphering what they need to know from the vast amounts of information available on the internet can be difficult and time-consuming for physicians.” said Chris Cooper, epgonline.org. “The new EPG Online Knowledge Centre provides healthcare professionals (HCP's) across Europe with a comprehensive resource of clear, concise and current advice regarding all aspects of thrombosis; including both prevention and treatment options. We are thankful to GlaxoSmithKline for their support in the development of this valuable resource”

Content of the Thrombosis Knowledge Centre includes information about the epidemiology and risk factors, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of VTE and acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Considerable detail is given to available pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapy options to prevent thrombolytic events. This includes a comprehensive list of available management guidelines.

In addition to the disease specific Knowledge Centres, EPG Online includes a database of drugs (searchable by name and indication), clinical trials, guideline information and original medical news articles. The resource was established in 2000 and is sanctioned by the European Medical Association (EMA). It is an independent website, dedicated to providing Healthcare Professionals (HCP’s) with free registration and access to the most recent best practice diagnosis and patient management guidance.
