The What House? Awards are a celebration of the UK new homes market and the largest gathering of their kind with leading industry figures in attendance - from housebuilders to suppliers and the media. Whilst the awards will continue to celebrate the best of new homes across the UK, this year they will also be tackling the serious business of the recovery of the industry in 2009.
The organisers are pleased to announce that the Shadow Housing Minister, Grant Shapps will be one of the speakers – outlining what the Conservatives have planned for housing and the housebuilding industry. Editorial Director Rupert Bates will be putting questions to Mr Shapps from the What House? Awards guests, and says “this is the perfect question and answer opportunity to find out what the Conservative Party is made of and how they would help housebuilders trade out of one of the worst downturns in history.” On top of this, Rupert also tells us that Housing Minister Margaret Beckett has also been asked to take part and that they are awaiting her reply. “Forget Obama v McCain, we could have Beckett v Shapps in the battle for the housebuilder’s vote” he says.
The gala lunch event provides the perfect opportunity for networking for anyone who is involved in the new homes industry from developers, architects, surveyors, interior designers, building products suppliers, the media, consultants and agencies, indeed anyone who is interested in hearing the views of the experts on how the recovery of the housing market can be achieved should book their tickets now. And on top of the serious side to the awards befitting an industry that has has a bit of a gloomy time of it, there will be light relief in the shape of one of television's top comedians to host the event and announce the 2008 winners – rewarding the best new homes in Britain at the worst of times.
The What House? Awards gala lunch and awards presentation will take place on the 21st November 2008 from 12pm at The Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.
