ChangeBASE AOK, the leaders in automated application and virtualisation compatibility software, today announces a new suite of compatibility plugins that test for compatibility issues between an application estate and the new Office2007 and IE7 platforms.

Office and IE7 are common platforms for internal and third party integration into many applications that are deployed onto the desktops and servers of enterprises. Components and API calls to the various modules provide tightly integrated functionality within what can be business critical applications.

The potential challenge with this is these applications are typically upgraded periodically.

Each time this happens, new functionality is added, API's, components, registry settings and security options are changed, causing potential installation and run time issues for existing applications in a corporate environment.

To avoid this problem, organisations conventionally test individual applications manually, taking between 2-4 hours per application.

For an organisation that has upwards of 1,000 applications, detailed testing could take 250-500 man-days to complete, with the likelihood that issues would still exist, purely due to omissions or errors inherent in manual testing.

Changebase AOK's new tool changes all that.

AOK automates testing for Office2007 and IE7 compatibility issues, reducing the time taken and increasing accuracy dramatically.

Steve Lack, Assistant Vice President, Infrastructure Management Service at Satyam, a Changebase partner, and one of only 6 Microsoft global Application Compatibility Factory program (ACF) partners, says:

"We have worked closely with ChangeBASE AOK on the beta of this release and believe that it will add huge value to our client base. As organisations prepare to roll out Office 2007/IE7 the requirement to test application compatibility, is very onerous. Satyam have integrated these new features into our service offering and our clients will reap tremendous benefit from this capability and the service model we offer"

Using its suite of plugins, AOK automatically identifies likely issues between an application and new Office2007 and IE7, and produces a clear Red, Amber, Green report identifying the priority issues and associated remediation paths.

And AOK does this in only two minutes per application.

'So, those same 1,000 applications mentioned earlier could all be checked in less than a week, and to a far higher degree of accuracy and consistency' said John Tate, Managing Director, ChangeBASE AOK.

'This is in addition to the benefit of cost, time saving and speedy deployment of new Office 2007 and IE7 functionality to the business, and the associated productivity rewards that this can bring' he continued.

ChangeBASE predict uptake of these new modules to be aggressive, both from existing customers and partners, 'input from our customers continues to strongly influence our development roadmap' Tate confirmed, 'Office and Internet Explorer application integration is commonplace, so being able to address potential issues and ensure application continuity, and to do so quickly, is a must'.
