News Release

(Embargoed until 13th November 2008) Model and former face of Lara Croft, Lucy Clarkson, today launches her exclusive calendar in aid of the charity, Help for Heroes.

The Help for Heroes cause is a charity close to Lucy’s heart as she’s experienced firsthand the effects of war on today’s soldiers.
Lucy explained: “I exercise the horses for the Household Calvary every morning and I’ve got to know the soldiers at the barracks. I found it really upsetting to listen to their stories of friends who, as a result of war, have experienced terrible injuries or died leaving young families. I wanted to do something to help them so it was an easy decision for me to support Help the Heroes. It is a fantastic charity and it is great to be able to give something back to these amazing people.”

Lucy has combined her love of modelling and the countryside to create a calendar that captures the essence of the great British outdoors.
Most calendars are produced over a year before they’re due to go on sale and the photographs are taken over many months, but Lucy had to work much quicker, “If we’d taken that long with this calendar it would be at least fourteen months before I was able to give any practical help to the charity.” Instead the 26 year-old set herself a challenge and the calendar goes on sale just a month after she first got the idea.

Lucy wanted to keep costs to the minimum to ensure as much money as possible went to the charity. The photographer worked for free and she managed to persuade the clothing company Barbour to supply the clothes. Lucy felt her biggest achievement was getting special permission from the Household Cavalry to shoot at their barracks with the horses. “I was very nervous about asking and amazed when they came back and gave me permission straight away.”

Shooting took place at the barracks and at rural locations in the South East over just two days: “It was a real challenge to get it all done in time but I’m so pleased with the result. It wasn’t easy though – having to pretend it was summer with near freezing temperatures is part of a model’s life but it was quite a feat trying to keep the autumn leaves out of shot!”

The calendar, entitled ‘Country Loving – A Year in the Country with Lucy Clarkson’ is priced at just £9.99 available from

The calendar builds on the success achieved by the stars of the X-Factor who reached number one on Remembrance Sunday with their single, Hero.
