Leeds Castle, near Maidstone, has been held by a total of six mediaeval queens over the course of 150 years, including Eleanor of Castile, Isabella of France, Joan of Navarre, Catherine de Valois and Anne of Bohemia.

People staying in Kent have the chance to see Leeds Castle in all its winter finery from December 1st until January 4th as the Saxon Manor celebrates the festive period in its own unique style.

Inspired by Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, rooms within the castle will include ice, snow, sugar plums and candy canes. Performances from the Nutcracker Suite will also take place in different rooms of the castle.

Santa is due to be in residence on December 6th and 7th and will be there daily from December 13th - 24th in his own cottage on the pavilion lawn.

In addition, special open evenings will be taking place throughout the month, allowing visitors to experience the castle's enchantment by night as it - and its grounds - are illuminated.

Hot chocolate, winter punch and treats for children will also be available, while the castle's shop will also be open for extended hours to allow guests to pick up any last-minute Christmas treats that take their fancy.
