Motorists dream of being Bond and would spend half their salary to drive his status raising car

Legendary British secret agent Bond may have a license to kill but UK motorists wish they had a licence to thrill after voting the Aston Martin DB9 Vanquish their dream car and the status symbol they would most like to own in a recent poll by leading used car portal

The Aston Martin is world renowned for its luxurious style and elegance, so it is not surprising that it was named top by more than a third of the 1001 respondents in the survey which canvassed the opinions and attitudes of UK motorists.

1 in 4 people in the UK (26 per cent) surveyed said their ultimate status symbol is their car. Just over a third (37 per cent) admitted that despite the credit crunch they are still prepared to spend up to half their annual salary on a new car, with a motoring mad 21 per cent spending over three quarters of their earnings on their wheels. More than half confessed to a manufacturer’s marque influencing their buying decision with the top ‘designer badges’ named as Aston Martin, BMW and Jaguar.

When asked about features they found most desirable in a car – luxurious leather interiors were cited by a quarter (25 per cent) whilst cruise control was sought-after by 1 in 5 (21.6 per cent).

For many of those polled, driving their dream motor was a distant hope and so modification was the next best thing for 1 in 5 (20 per cent). Upgrading the sound system was top of the list for 39.7 per cent, closely followed by added bling in the form of alloy wheels for just over a third (36.5 per cent).
