Pocket the Problem exhibition at City Hall

In the last couple of months, Clippykit, an award winning fashion accessories company and Make your Mark young enterprise organisation have been running a competition with girl’s schools across London. The aim was to customise the bags with a issue that was important to them but also to combine this with a business plan on how to promote their chosen issue. Fashion, young women and issues proved to be a thought provoking and inspiring combination. The results were spectacular and 160 teams entered, with over 650 girls getting involved with issues ranging from knife crime, forced marriage to social stereotyping (the bags are like Tracy Emin works of art). We have now been approached by schools to roll this competition out across the country as has proved such a success both with teachers and with girls. The winning school was Haverstock in Camden. These young girls (14-15 years) focused on Gun and Knife crime and their business plan was so impressive that their local police have offered them £5000 to start trialling workshops within schools across the borough.

The competition has had such a positive impact on the girls, it has given them the confidence to achieve their goals in business and face social issues. With all the negative press that teenagers accumulate this exhibition really does show a positive image amongst all the doom and gloom. The exhibition is currently on at City Hall until Dec 9th, Monday to Friday. Clippykit is also pleased to announce that they will be supporting the fantastic children’s charity Kids Company.

“Without projects such as these some children are a stone's throw away from becoming involved in the issues they are talking about”
