Online alternative to fitness membership

Internet TV Fitness Channel provides interactive fitness content, and ‘one stop’ gym resources

December 3rd, 2008: ThinQ Digital Media, the digital TV content company, today launches Europe’s first comprehensive on-demand digital television channel focused on fitness. The channel, called ThinQ Fitness, uses the latest online video technology to allow users to interact with workout presenters on sessions including fat loss, step, yoga, pilates, pre/post natal, and gym, holistic or dance.

The channel provides an alternative to traditional gym membership to keep fit at any location, and offers a range of workouts aimed at those with little or no previous keep fit experience, to those who are active gym members.

Customers access the videos from their computers by visiting the web site - Here they can select from a range of graded sessions according to proficiency. For beginners there is an ‘introduction to fitness’ programme and the channel shows users other suitable videos, based on previously selected levels.

The channel also allows interaction with other members, healthy lifestyle news and articles plus access to social networking features and gym equipment retailers, giving users a single location for all their fitness needs.

“Increasingly people want to fit exercise into a busy lifestyle,” comments Lucy Case, Fitness Director, ThinQ Fitness. “We wanted to create a place where anyone could come and have fun getting fit and healthy no matter where they are. A place where the expertise of the top professionals in the industry is instantly accessible alongside factual, unbiased and sensible information about leading a healthier life.”

British Video Association data shows that January sales of fitness DVDs and videos have almost doubled over the last five years. ThinQ Fitness is one of the first of a breed of new technology companies that are set to replace this market, using the increasing adoption of digital and Internet based TV services, as Paul Gullett, Managing Director, ThinQ Digital Media, comments, “There is a growing market for quality content to the computer, which is rapidly becoming the second TV screen in households.”

In response to this growth, ThinQ Fitness offers free content for all visitors, and provides unlimited access for £4.99 a month - a tenth of the price of a normal gym membership. Video content includes:

• General – Toning classes, aerobics and step and tone, through to ‘legs, bums and tums’.
• Sport – Sports-based workouts ranging from fun combat thought to bike-fit and weight-pumping
• Dance – Everything from Irish dancing to street and belly dancing.
• Breathe – Relaxation and holistic sessions including Yoga, Pilates, Stretch, Tai Chi and Pre & Post Natal.
• Health – For those with minor health issues
• Gym – Workouts and instructional tips for gym equipment users.
