The Brazilian Beach comes to Fulham Road this New Year’s Eve as Diva Beach puts on an exotic party not to be missed.

Their White Party is inspired by the New Year’s Eve celebrations in Rio de Janeiro where every year about two and a half million people dressed in white gather on Copacabana beach. Traditionally, they throw white flowers into the sea as an offering to Yemanja, the Goddess of the Ocean, to make their wishes for the New Year.

Dressed to impress in ice white, guests will be given a white flower as they arrive to be placed in a water-filled vessel with floating candles, before being offered to make a wish to Yemanja in keeping with the South American tradition.
Located on a stretch of Fulham known as ‘The Beach’ by locals, Diva Beach opens its doors at 8pm for what promises to be a lively and decadent night to remember. The staff will be putting on a lavish reception of Champagne, irresistible cocktails and decadent canapés before the night gets into full carnival swing with DJ Dele and DJ Wigz taking control of the decks. Both internationally renowned for their ability to get a party pumping, the DJs are guaranteed to whip up a storm.

Open till 5am, the boutique club will be marking midnight with a bang, as fireworks will be sold with Champagne and dozens of indoor fireworks are set to kick-start the beginning of 2009 in style as the clocks turn midnight.
Recognised as one of the most exuberant occasions in Brazil, the White Party at Diva Beach promises to be a stylish, vibrant way to see in the New Year. Tickets will cost £50 and will include one glass of Champagne, one cocktail and a selection of canapés. For and table bookings call 020 7351 7711 or reservations@diva-beach.com

More information about Vespera de Ano Novo (NYE in South America):

On New Year's Eve in Rio de Janeiro, millions of cariocas dressed in white gather on Copacabana beach to greet the New Year, watch fireworks, and throw flowers and other offerings into the sea for the goddess in the hopes that she will grant them their requests for the coming year. Some send their gifts to Iemanjá in wooden toy boats. Paintings of Iemanjá are sold in Rio shops, next to paintings of Jesus and other catholic saints. They portray her as a woman rising out of the sea. Small offerings of flowers and floating candles are left in the sea on many nights at Copacabana.

New Year's Eve (Véspera de Ano Novo) is one of the most exuberant holidays in Brazil. In most Brazilian cities, even those of medium size, there is a massive display of fireworks after midnight, and special musical shows. The most famous celebration is at the Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, which has an average attendance of 2,500,000 people. The fireworks display last from 15 to 25 minutes and is followed by music shows set on several stages throughout the beach. In recent years, a display of fireworks has also been set-up in the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas district. – Source: Wikipedia
