Document management and imaging software author, Version One (, today announces that it was amongst the first organisations to sign up to the Green Charter of the Business Application Software Developers Association (BASDA).

This recently launched green IT initiative is a significant milestone towards achieving the 2012 and 2050 carbon reducing targets as set-out by the Kyoto protocol, as it commits software developers to tackling climate change both within their own businesses and through organisations’ use of their software products.

Lynne Munns, Version One’s General Manager says, “Since launching our Carbon Neutral Initiative in 2006, we have become increasingly ‘green’ as a company and continue to look for ways of tackling climate change. Signing-up to the BASDA Green Charter is the next step in Version One’s environmental strategy and is key to ensuring the software industry works together to address the all-important issue of climate change.”

By signing up to the BASDA Green Charter, Version One agrees to the following:

• We will take pro-active steps to increase the carbon efficiency of our own organisations such that we will be regarded as low-carbon entities

• We will enhance our software solutions to enable customers to become part of a carbon efficient economy

• Via BASDA, we will engage in the debate around green ICT – including measurement, reporting, data requirements and standards

• We will work as an industry through BASDA to educate and increase awareness of green issues as they relate to ICT and particularly business software

Munns comments, “As well as tackling climate change internally, our electronic document management systems lend themselves to supporting organisations’ green agendas as they reduce paper-use and significantly cut CO2 emissions. Document management also delivers a number of business benefits by improving efficiency, reducing operating costs and freeing-up storage space making good business as well as environmental sense.”

Munns adds, “At Version One we have always been committed to developing software to help combat climate change as highlighted by us winning a ‘Green champion’ award at this year’s National Green Apple Environment awards. We will continue to look at ways to develop our products in support of companies’ environmental strategies as software systems such as ours will remain key to achieving carbon reduction targets.”
