Thierry van Santen appointed as CEO of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty France.

Munich/Paris: December 18th 2008.

Thierry van Santen, previously Head of Risk Management at Danone, has been appointed as the new CEO of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) in France. He takes over on January 19th 2009 from Frédéric Grand, who moves within the Allianz Group and remains a Board Member of AGCS France.

This appointment continues the development of AGCS operations in France, as part of the company’s worldwide strategy of building strong local capabilities within a global network of offices. AGCS France is a core part of this strategy, and is responsible for around €680 million of gross premium in 2008. The company focuses on the needs of major businesses, offering a wide range of corporate and specialty insurance services, from aviation and marine to property, engineering, financial lines and liability protection on a worldwide basis.

Mr van Santen, aged 53, will be joining AGCS on January 5th and taking over officially on January 19th, working alongside Mr Grand in the interim period. He will be based in AGCS’s new offices in La Défense, Paris, and joins the company from Danone Group, where he was responsible for risk management of this group’s worldwide operations. He is widely recognised as one of the leading risk managers of his generation, with a career spanning over 30 years in the industry. He has played an active role in European risk management for a number of years, serving as President of the Federation of European Risk Management Associations (FERMA) from 2001 to 2005, as well as being President of the French Risk Management Association, AMRAE from 1992 to 1998. Frédéric Grand will retain an active involvement in AGCS, remaining a member of the Board of Directors of AGCS France.

Axel Theis, Global CEO of AGCS, commented: ‘We are delighted that Thierry has agreed to take on this key role, building on the outstanding foundations that Frédéric Grand has established. I would like to thank Frédéric for his great contribution in establishing AGCS in France and am very pleased that he will remain on the AGCS France Board. Thierry is an ideal successor for him and, by appointing a leading risk manager at the head of AGCS France, we are demonstrating our commitment to focusing on the needs of our clients. Thierry will bring a client’s perspective as well as extensive practical experience of global risk management to this role, and will work with clients and brokers to deliver the solutions that they need.’

Frédéric Grand added: ‘It has been a privilege to lead AGCS France since we created the company in 2006 and I look forward to remaining involved in the business. Knowing Thierry, I am sure that I hand over as CEO to a very capable professional whose entrepreneurial spirit and client-focused approach will be a great advantage to AGCS.’
