London-- December 18th,2008 -- Kenneth G. Brill, founder and executive director of U.S.-based Uptime Institute, a leading think-tank and advisory to owners and operators of the world’s largest enterprise data centres, yesterday received the “Outstanding Contribution to Industry” accolade at the Datacentre Leaders’ Awards in London last night.

This award was created to recognize an individual’s lifetime achievement.

Over the past 25 years, Brill’s work on the development of concepts such as dual power topology in data centre design and the industry’s Tier Classification System for evaluating performance have helped to shape the modern data centre industry. His recent research on declining data centre economic productivity driven by the escalating consumption and cost of energy form the core knowledge for corporate leaders charged with business performance, profitability, and sustainability.

“As the heart of an organization, data centres demand highly sophisticated treatment—they’re a corporation’s lifeline. Over the years, the Institute has led the development and standardisation of new technologies and procedures that keep the ‘heart’ beating and computing downtime at bay. Now, with a shift in attention to economic and environmental pressures, the Institute is helping the industry design and operate the most efficient and productive data centers and I look forward to continuing on this path,” said Brill.

More than six hundred data centre professionals attended the Gala event at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London, where Brill was presented with the award.

This year’s Datacentre Leaders’ Awards attracted unprecedented interest and a record number of entries across the nine key categories including: Innovation in Medium and Mega Datacentres, ‘Green’ Datacentre, Team Leadership, Future Thinking and Young Engineer of the Year.

The judging panel was drawn from industry experts in design, building and operation of data centers and the process was overseen by Zahl Limbuwala, chairman of the Data Centre Specialist Group at the British Computer Society (BCS).
