ONET Technologies is a highly respected, progressive company committed to strengthening Gravatom’s position in the UK

One of the world’s leading providers of corporate services, ONET Group, has acquired Gravatom, the British-based nuclear engineering company with manufacturing sites in Hampshire and West Cumbria, for an undisclosed sum.

Under the terms of the deal, Gravatom will become part of ONET Technologies, the specialist nuclear and engineering division of ONET Group. The division is the leader in France in the decommissioning market and number two after AREVA in reactor maintenance. It has a €167m turnover and employs 2,000 staff across Europe.

Gravatom Engineering Systems Ltd employs 130 people at sites in Bishops Waltham, Fareham and Workington, Cumbria. Gravatom had revenues of £9.7m in the period ending May 31st 2008. Its sale paves the way for business expansion both in the UK and globally.

Dominique Mouillot, President of ONET Technologies and a member of the ONET Group Board of Directors, said: “ONET Technologies has acquired Gravatom as part of an ambitious strategy to expand in the UK and exploit the opportunities for nuclear decommissioning and new build. Gravatom’s capabilities, coupled with ONET Technologies’ experience of decommissioning and new build in France, provides a perfect union to take the business forward and become a major player in the UK nuclear industry.”

Dave Barker, Managing Director of Gravatom, said: “The acquisition is fantastic news for Gravatom as a company, our staff, our customers and suppliers. ONET Technologies is a highly respected, progressive company committed to strengthening Gravatom’s position in the UK.

“Becoming part of ONET Technologies will drive our business forward internationally, allowing us to exploit opportunities in new build and nuclear decommissioning as well as our other core markets of nuclear medicine and contract manufacturing. Importantly, it presents a huge opportunity to exploit the Sellafield decommissioning programme and the dismantling of the Magnox graphite reactor.”

Dave Barker will hand over the role of Managing Director to Pierre Bertet, who runs ONET Technologies UK, which was set up last year to forge new business in the UK prior to the acquisition of Gravatom.

Pierre Bertet said: “Gravatom is well known in the UK and in Europe for its capabilities and achievements in areas such as hot shielded cells, glove-boxes, flasks, packages and mechanical tools. Furthermore, Gravatom has a broad range of in-house capabilities, from concept design through to manufacture, fabrication and assembly, allowing the company to deliver full turnkey solutions. To achieve its goals, ONET Technologies is keen to tap into Gravatom’s proven expertise in nuclear systems, nuclear medicine and contract manufacturing. The acquisition provides an opportunity to strengthen and adapt the company’s resources and fully exploit new build and decommissioning challenges as they arise.”

The acquisition will result in more jobs. Commenting on plans to grow the business, Pierre Bertet said: “The goal is to become a major player in the UK nuclear industry by bringing together Gravatom’s expertise with ONET Technologies’ technical know-how and experience in engineering, dismantling, decontamination, waste treatment and management, robotics and bespoke tools. To achieve this goal, additional staff will be required.”

The purchase is particularly significant for women in the nuclear industry. Dominique Mouillot is the President of the French branch of WIN, the worldwide network for women in the nuclear business. She said: “I work with other women in the industry to raise awareness about nuclear activities and help develop careers and opportunities for women in this domain. I will be more than happy to contribute to the creation of a WIN network in the UK.”
