Cancer Advice (, an online resource for cancer patients and their relatives has launched a paid for advice service providing access to the expertise of a team of leading London cancer specialists.

The team will answer questions, and expert advice on cancer diagnosis, treatments, and related issues.

The Cancer Advice service is a new and unique service in the UK that will give people access to advice and opinions from cancer specialists from Harley Street and the London teaching hospitals.

There are two services available – “Expert advice” which provides general advice on a particular cancer issue on an anonymous basis (to comply with General Medical Council guidelines), and “Expert opinion” which provides a detailed clinical review of an individual case and a specialist medical opinion.

“Expert advice” provides information about the diagnosis, treatment and best practice for management of a specific type of cancer. The service provides expert review of current, modern and best standard cancer treatment and therapies that are available for an individual situation. Any answers given will be in response to the individual circumstances of the patient described in the query. This information is not intended to override the advice of any specialist from whom the patient is currently undertaking treatment but to give a broader basis of understanding of that particular cancer and its treatment.

The “Expert opinion” service will provide a full report in response to an individual’s case based on information sent to the cancer specialist, which will include patient history, medical records, and investigations (scans and tests) which will have been submitted to our experts. The experts can then give a comprehensive reply to which the enquirer can then ask ancillary questions related to the experts opinion.

The website also provides a valuable resource for people with the latest information about specific cancers and treatment options, support groups, specialists, charities, cancer centres and recommended reading outside of the website.

Cancer Advice (, is the brainchild of Dr Nick Plowman, a consultant in Clinical Oncology at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and The Hospital for Sick Children Great Ormond Street and who has visiting duties at St Mark’s Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital.

“Cancer Advice has been launched because patients often have many questions they would like to ask their specialist after a consultation is finished. Additionally, our “Expert opinion” service gives patients the advantage of getting a second opinion from a leading expert. To have both the Expert advice and Expert opinion answers in writing is also extremely helpful for patients as it gives them time to fully understand the particular cancer and broaden their knowledge about its diagnosis, treatment and the options available for managing it.”
