The Memory4Teachers memory sticks are a useful way for teachers to store their information

Educators offered advice on how to save time, conquer information overload, and be more creative and effective.

London UK, 12 January 09, Mindjet, the leading provider of applications for mind mapping and interactive visual collaboration, today announced it is joining the ‘Free USB memory sticks for UK teachers’ campaign, Memory4Teachers. The project is a nationwide scheme, coordinated by RGS Media Group which aims to provide 2GB memory sticks to 750,000 teachers across the UK. The memory sticks are more than just storage devices and come pre-loaded with numerous applications and resources a teacher could use day-to-day. RGS Media Group has also been responsible for a number of high profile campaigns such as Tesco’s Computers for Schools and Sainsbury’s Active Kids.

Mindjet developed the software, MindManager to help people rapidly build visualisations of ideas or complex problems. Already in use by progressive schools today, MindManager introduces the concept of Mind-mapping, first coined by Tony Buzan in 1974 and provides a visual way to capture, organise and work with ideas and information. MindManager helps individuals to brainstorm, plan, strategise and interact more effectively, helping them work smarter instead of harder, foster more creative thinking and achieve more in less time.

“Mindjet and MindManager have a rich history in the education sector and we are absolutely delighted to be supporting this initiative and have an exciting opportunity to introduce the concept of mind-mapping right across the teaching profession,” commented Chris Harman, director, NEWS general business, Mindjet UK. “MindManager has already been successful in helping teachers deliver a different way of teaching and presenting making debate and learning far more engaging. Our experience tells us that mind-mapping is making learning more accessible and inclusive and greatly helps students and pupils to better organise their thoughts, learn and retain information.”

The Memory4Teachers memory sticks are a useful way for teachers to store their information on given the strict firewall policies across the education sector, and a need to work from multiple PCs within an educational institution and at home. The USB devices are password-protected and encrypted to retain security and privacy. Once inserted into a PC the device automatically sends the user to ‘start’ interface where access to a diary, timetable, lesson plans and other educational resources are presented. Mindjet content includes an overview of the use of Mind-mapping in education. The interface also provides hyperlinks to other useful resources like planning, management and creative and effective teaching methods to support the teacher.

The Memory4Teachers initiative will be officially launched at the BETT Show in January 2009 and the Education Show in March 2009. Teachers attending these events will be able to receive a free USB memory stick.

For schools interested in adopting mind-mapping into every day teaching or management Mindjet MindManager 8 is the latest education version of the visualisation tool and is priced £49 with a Mac version at £89. It is available through Douglas Stewart EDU, Europe's premier distributor of technology to the education and charity markets.
