an innovative new range of audio books to make classic texts more accessible to a teenage audience
Naxos AudioBooks is delighted to announce an innovative new range of audio books to make classic texts more accessible to a teenage audience. Featuring compelling readings enhanced with atmospheric music and extensive study notes by leading teacher/education writer Francis Gilbert, Young Adult Classics are the ideal way to help young people learn and enjoy classic literature. The audio versions of the stories are abridged and both the abridged and full text are embedded in searchable electronic form on the CDs.
The first two titles in the Young Adult Classics range (to be published on 2nd February) will be Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most popular Sherlock Holmes story, The Hound of the Baskervilles. These will be followed on 10th April by Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Additional classics will become available throughout the year.
Nicolas Soames, Publisher of Naxos AudioBooks, said: ‘It is difficult for teenagers today to engage with classic stories, which may initially seem to be irrelevant to their lives. The purpose of the Young Adult Classics range is to help draw them into the worlds within the books. To show them that classic stories are as compelling and as topical today as they were when they were originally written.’
