Humans have always created a purpose through myths that they have themselves created and spread

Why is it that the vast majority of conflict around the world involves religion? Is it because religions are in competition with each other (as we tend to believe), or is there a deeper cause? In his new book published on 6th February 2009, The Bridge published by Bang! Publishing, David Hillstrom takes a philosophical look the evolution of human consciousness, how the history of thought has shaped our world and how we can throw off the shackles of history to improve our world.

The Bridge, addresses its argument in two sections. The first probes the history of religion and myths that are still influential in today’s age of science. Further expanding the concepts of part one, the second half of the book discusses the root of human conflict and political legacies, and the much needed reform of today’s politics. “Humans have always created a purpose through myths that they have themselves created and spread,” says Hillstrom. “The challenge is for us to embrace this reality, acknowledge it, and redefine our purpose responsibly from scratch.”

David Hillstrom is also the author of The Story of Our People, a collection of poems that examines the tragedy of human conflict.

The Bridge and The Story of Our People are published by Bang! Publishing and are available at and all good bookshops.
